About

Miika Nyyssönen (1965)
Miika Nyyssönen's artistic production is wide-ranging, it includes paintings, sculptures, installations and computer-based art. He is interested in the structures that make up the visual world. By collecting, researching and developing various materials, Nyyssönen establishes the atmosphere of his work or series of works. Impulses such as a personal handprint and painting gestures are his tools, also in sculptures. The style of his gestures varies depending on the subject, from flat fields to organic wanderings: repetitions, manias, automation, very slow or fast work are his methods of creating an image, as well as working from observation according to a landscape or an art historical model. Miika Nyyssönen is interested in the visible's ability to activate many different conceptual layers in the mind of the viewer of the artwork. For him, important features of the work are pigments and surface structures, choices of proportions, color relationships, abstract storytelling, tensions and the intertwining of areas of the image or sculpture.
Nyyssönen's works have been exhibited widely in Finland and also several times in other countries such as Germany, Italy and the United States.
His works belong to several museum and private collections.
